Ron Knudson, long-time principal of Denver High School, was instrumental in organizing Denver’s first scholarship organization in 1990. Under his leadership, Denver community members established Denver Dollars for Scholars. Since that time, the organization has awarded over 650 scholarships totaling over $800,000.
In 2012, because of changes at the national level, board members established the Denver Cyclone Scholarship Foundation to operate independently and maintain local control and direction. Community involvement and support have been key to the growth and success we have experienced, making Denver’s scholarship program remarkably strong for a school of our size.
Evelyn F. Ducker was a teacher at Denver Elementary School for 29 years. Evelyn was very passionate about education and loved teaching. She never had any biological children, but over the years she definitely had a number of children she could call her own. She was also very passionate about students getting higher education. Because she loved all of these she wrote in her bequest that 1.4 million dollars will be donated to the Denver Cyclone Scholarship Foundation. Her final gifts allowed for her wishes, to advance the education of students for many years, to come true. She will forever be remembered by her family and former students for her love for fishing and her phrase, “Fishy, Fishy in the brook. Fishy, Fishy on my hook.”
